Democracy and Autocracy: Dichotomy of the Modern World

Bewteen West and East: W.E.B. Du Bois on Democracy in Contemporary World 

Dr. William E.B. Du Bois’ reflections on democracy were not purely academic, but were closely intertwined with his activities as a writer, teacher, civil rights activist and public figure. W.E.B. Du Bois had a a keen interest in democratic practices in contemporary world; his view of American democracy “from behind the veil” encouraged him to search and compare different models existing not only in the West (USA, Britain, Germany, France), but also in the East (USSR, China) and in Africa. Many of Du Bois’ major works were inspired by travels: his personal experience played a key role in his intellectual and creative activities. The paper dwells at some length on Du Bois’ travels – his trips around the world, five visits to the Soviet Union, trips to China, Africa, and Germany – and their influence on his ideas about democracy as well as his attitudes to the existing democratic practices. The paper is based on Du Bois’ published works (including autobiographical texts and correspondence), and unpublished materials from his archive – manuscripts, drafts, sketches, notes; among them his unpublished books The World Search for Democracy (draft manuscript, 1937), Russia and America: An Interpretation (1950).

Между Западом и Востоком: 

Уильям Дюбуа о судьбах демократии в современном мире 

Размышления доктора Уильяма Э.Б. Дюбуа о демократии не носили чисто академический характер, но были тесно связаны с его деятельностью как писателя, преподавателя и общественного деятеля. У. Дюбуа отличал живой интерес к демократическим практикам в современном мире; его взгляд на американскую демократию «из-за цветной завесы» побуждал его к поиску и сопоставлению разных моделей, существующих не только на Западе (в первую очередь в США, Британии, Германии, Франции), но также на Востоке (СССР, Китай, другие азиатские страны) и на Юге (страны Африки). Многие крупные статьи и книги Дюбуа появлялись как итог его путешествий: личный опыт всегда был для него ключевым условием успешной интеллектуальной и творческой работы. В докладе будет рассмотрена роль кругосветных путешествий Дюбуа, его пяти визитов Дюбуа в Советский Союз, поездок в Китай, в Африку, в Германию для эволюции его идей о демократии и его оценки демократических практик. В основу доклада положены как изданные статьи и книги Дюбуа (в том числе автобиографические сочинения, переписка), так и неопубликованные материалы из его архива – рукописи, подготовительные и рабочие материалы (планы, наброски, черновики) в том числе невышедшие книги «Поиск демократии в мире» (1937), «Россия и Америка: интерпретация» (1950).

Эволюция политического комментария на примере произведений Хантера Томпсона “Страх и отвращение предвыборной гонки 1972 года” и “Лучше, чем секс”  

Фигура Хантера Томпсона, безусловно, является знаковой для американской культуры. В первую очередь Томпсон известен, как родоначальник «гонзо-журналистики», жанра, который далек от объективности, но не лишен критического, а иногда даже и сатирического, взгляда на проблему. Авторский стиль Томпсона нашел выражение в работах, посвященных преимущественно освещению президентских предвыборных компаний 1972 и 1992 годов.  В произведениях «Страх и отвращение предвыборной гонки 1972 года» и «Лучше, чем секс» журналист и писатель раскрывает изнанку жизни политиков. Как пишет сам Томпсон: «главный секрет политической журналистики заключается в умении перевести все это на нормальный язык». Действительно, язык «гонзо» самым лучшим образом отражает всю сложность и многогранность политической борьбы за президентское кресло. К тому же фигура автора оттеняет исторических персонажей, тем самым, помогая, показать их максимально реалистичными. Также важно отметить следующие черты «гонзо-журналистики»: эклектичность и большое количество отступлений, далеких от главной линии повествования. Эти характерные черты есть во многих работах писателя. В данных романах они работают на общую идею, а именно показывают хронологию схватки кандидатов за пост президента.     

Можно сказать, что политический комментарий в работах Хантера Томпсона эволюционирует: появляется ещё более отчетливое выражение позиции самого автора. Его мысли выходят на передний план, тогда как в первом политическом романе главную роль играли описания (через призму авторского взгляда) действий непосредственных участников событий. Неизменным остается едкий и хлесткий язык, который является характерной особенностью всех произведений журналиста. Таким образом, можно сделать вывод, что Хантер Томпсон на протяжении всей своей карьеры показывал закулисье «политического театра» через призму сугубо личного восприятия.

Медиаобраз Дональда Трампа на президентских выборах 2024 года 

В докладе рассматривается трансформация медиаобраза Дональда Трампа в течение президентской гонки 2024 г. на основе анализа телевизионных, Интернет- и печатных СМИ, а также социальных сетей Д. Трампа. Медиаобраз кандидатов на пост президента играет важную роль в ходе выборов, вызывая поддержку и отталкивая различные группы электората, поэтому анализ и изучение особенностей медиастратегий и репрезентации образов политиков СМИ представляется актуальным и необходимым для определения влияния роли СМИ на избирательные и политические процессы.

Роль языка спортивной журналистики в политическом дискурсе США 

Для наиболее полного понимания американского политического дискурса необходимо понимание языка, разработанного спортивной журналистикой. Разработка данного языка велась ведущими представителями журналистики и литературы, начиная со второй половины ХIХ века.  Американский политический истеблишмент рос, впитывая в себя данный язык с детства.   

Для того, чтобы правильно понимать американский политический дискурс, нужно иметь понимание о спортивной карте США. Язык спортивной журналистики – это не только лингвистические и синтаксические конструкции, но и понимание истории спорта. Спортивные соревнования буквально с самого начала стали большой частью культуры страны.

Отражение демократических ценностей в материалах “Голоса Америки” 

Тема демократических ценностей регулярно освещается старейшим внешнеполитическим вещателем США. Его основной задачей является ознакомление слушателей с вопросами общественного устройства, социальных институтов, функционирования разных ветвей власти. Американцы трепетно относятся к вопросам демократического устройства общества, культуры и государственной власти в своей стране. И сейчас на сайте вещателя ей уделяется значительное внимание. На эту тему опубликованы как информационные, так и аналитические материалы. Также русский отдел «Голоса Америки» регулярно освещает вопросы политической жизни выходцев из России, русскоязычных американцев, например, их участие в избирательных кампаниях разных уровней. В последние годы успешно развивается информационные проекты о социальной жизни, экономике и культуре. Одним из наиболее интересных материалов был сюжет о музее в Плимуте, где обрели новую родину выходцы из Великобритании и других европейских стран. Тема демократических ценностей является одной из основных тем об американской жизни.  Материалы на эту тему приобрели большую популярность у аудитории.
